Dahlia Tuber and Rooted Cutting Policies

-VIABILITY-
Each tuber is guaranteed to have a viable body, a dormant or sprouting eye, and will be labeled correctly. Tubers are considered live plant material and as such, we do not offer refunds. All tubers are hand-inspected at multiple points during the digging, dividing, storing, inventory, and packaging processes. Please note: tubers come in many shapes and sizes and the physical attributes of a tuber have no bearing on the health or vitality of the plant that will grow from it. A robust plant will grow from a tuber the size of your pinky. A fat tuber may appear to have no crown, but may still have an eye. Like humans, all tubers do not look the same, but if given a healthy environment and proper care, they can all flourish into beautiful plants, regardless of their size, shape, or imperfections.
Each rooted cutting will have a healthy root system, viable growth above the soil line, and a minimum of two sets of leaves. Rooted cuttings are live plant material and as such, we do not offer refunds. All rooted cuttings are hand-inspected at multiple points during the growing, inventory, and packaging processes.
Contact must be made via email within 24 hours of receiving shipments of live plant materials, including tubers, to address concerns regarding viability. You must include your name, order number, and pictures clearly identifying the concern. We cannot assist you without this information.
-LOSS-
Once tubers or rooted cuttings leave our farm, we cannot be responsible for damage, disease, or loss due to negligence, forgetfulness, accidents, environmental factors, or inexperience. We know that losing a tuber or cutting can be disappointing, even deeply personal—perhaps it was a variety chosen in memory of a loved one or the perfect addition to your carefully curated palette. We understand! While we do not offer refunds, our goal is to help both you and your garden thrive. Whether you need growing advice, troubleshooting support, or guidance on next steps, we encourage you to reach out—we’re happy to help.
-SHIPPING-
Dahlia tubers will be shipped in April, and in areas experiencing unseasonably colder than average temperatures, shipping may be delayed to May. Shipment dates are prioritized based on the weather of the originating area (Connecticut) and the destination zone. Tubers come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and therefore, the final shipping charge may vary based on the package size needed to ship your order. In most cases, we will refund any applicable shipping charges within one week of the shipment date.
Shipping Locations: We ship to all US States. While we do not currently offer international shipping for online orders, please reach out to us if you are interested in exploring what other options we have available.
Early Shipping: As a farm that tries to stretch the growing season as long as possible, we understand how beneficial it is to start the growing process early and will honor requests for early shipping at no additional cost. However, due to natural and environmental factors or other factors beyond our control, including delays or issues that may arise as a result of the shipping provider, orders that are shipped early are not eligible for package insurance, replacement, or refund through The Dahliary or its shipping provider.
Combined Shipping: Our environmental footprint matters! We will honor requests to combine shipping for multiple tuber orders or multiple rooted cutting orders at no additional cost, if your orders have not been packed at the time of the request, and the following criteria are met:
Send one email to info@thedahliary.com with the subject "Combining Orders".
Include your name as listed on all orders (names, emails, and shipping addresses on all orders must match)
Include all order numbers that you are requesting be shipped together. Tubers and rooted cuttings are always shipped separately and those cannot be combined. If you have two orders, and they both include tubers and rooted cuttings, we will combine tubers to one package, and rooted cuttings to one package, whenever possible. When combining orders, we will use the least expensive option that does not sacrifice the integrity of the package or its contents. In most cases, we will refund any applicable shipping charges within one week of the shipment date.
Shipping Cost: The shipping cost is based on the number of items in the cart and is displayed at checkout.
Quality Control: Each tuber is hand-selected and inspected for quality, individually labeled, packed in vermiculite, and undergoes packing slip verification. These steps ensure your order is processed correctly (no missing, unlabeled, mispicked, or damaged tubers), shipped to the correct address, and arrives as fresh as the day it was packed.
-OTHER POLICIES-
PHOTOS: Do not copy, download, or use our photographs without prior written consent.
GROWING GUIDE: Contact us via email or on social media if you need planting advice or resources (tutorials, videos, links, etc.) There are extensive resources on how to plant and grow dahlias, and we encourage all growers, new and experienced, to continue to read best practices and expand their knowledge base, especially prior to ordering. When it comes to gardening, methods for one grower can have varying degrees of success for other growers. Know your zone, understand your limitations, and do not be afraid to ask for guidance. We are happy to share what has worked for us and recommend videos or resources from other experienced growers, too.
-VIOLATION OF POLICIES AND REFUSAL OF SERVICE-
Our customers are flower lovers, and all flower lovers are our friends. We believe that in a world where you can be anything, you should be kind. In the spirit of community on which our farm was founded, we ask that you communicate any concerns directly with us so we can address them.
While we have not experienced this firsthand, we’ve seen conversations online where viable tubers are unfairly criticized simply because they don’t look “perfect.” A tuber doesn’t need to be flawless to be healthy—this growing trend of valuing aesthetics over viability creates unrealistic expectations for new dahlia growers. (Are we seeing the parallel here?) With over 20 years of experience growing dahlias, we stand by the quality of our plants.
By purchasing from our farm, you agree to all policies listed on our website, in email correspondence, and at checkout. We reserve the right to cancel any order if a customer disregards our policies. Canceled orders—whether due to abuse, misuse of our policies, content, or staff, or for any other reason—are subject to a 25% restocking fee. Additionally, we reserve the right to refuse service or cancel orders from any individual, organization, or agency that we believe does not intend to follow our policies.
This is a beautiful community—let’s keep Growing Better Together.
